On Saturday, 14 October, the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth arrives in Gothenburg. The ship is one of two aircraft carriers in the Queen Elizabeth class, measuring 280 metres and with a crew of 1,600 soldiers and sailors, writes the Swedish Armed Forces in a press release on 5 October.

The aircraft carrier will be in Gothenburg for just over a week, and the visit coincides with several joint exercises between Swedish naval and air forces and their British counterparts both on the west coast and in the Baltic Sea. The visit is unique in its kind as it is one of the largest warships to visit Sweden, according to the Swedish Armed Forces.

The visit is part of the defence cooperation JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force) in which ten countries participate, with Sweden having been a member since 2017. A JEF meeting with heads of state and government will also take place in Visby on Gotland on 13 October.

During the meeting, the leaders will discuss Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as how the countries can continue to strengthen their cooperation with NATO and develop their ability to handle hybrid threats, writes the Prime Minister's Office in a press release on 3 October.
