BAE Systems Bofors has received an order from Damen Naval for a Bofors 40 Mk4 naval gun for the Colombian Navy. The gun will be installed on a SIGMA-class PES frigate, built by Damen Naval, BAE Systems states in a press release.

– We continue to be a reliable partner in Latin America, delivering advanced solutions that include both firepower and rapid response, which the Colombian Navy requires, says Stefan Löfström, Marketing and Sales Director at BAE Systems Bofors.

The Bofors 40 Mk4 is a naval gun designed for both air and surface combat and can switch between different types of ammunition to counter threats from air, land, and sea.

– Damen Naval is very pleased that BAE Systems Bofors will enhance the versatile combat capabilities of the SIGMA 10514-based PES frigate with their Bofors 40 Mk4 for the Colombian Navy, says Jasper Oreel, Project Manager at Damen Naval.

The Colombian order follows a series of international deals for BAE Systems Bofors. In November 2024, Defence Sector News reported that the Netherlands and Belgium ordered eight Bofors 40 Mk4 naval guns for their navies, with each country receiving two frigates equipped with two systems each.
