In a press release, BAE Systems states that the company has received a contract amendment from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to build an additional 20 CV90 Mjölner. The contract, valued at approximately 30 million dollars, has been awarded to BAE Systems' Swedish joint venture company HB Utveckling AB, which combines the manufacturing capabilities of BAE Systems Hägglunds and Bofors. Production will be carried out at BAE Systems Hägglunds in Örnsköldsvik.

The new order brings the total number of vehicles to 80, planned to be in service by 2025.

The original contract for 40 CV90 Mjölner was initiated in 2016 with deliveries during 2019 and 2020. In February 2022, FMV was awarded the first follow-up contract for an additional 20 systems as well as the upgrade of the 40 existing systems already in service.

Once the deliveries are completed, the Swedish Army will operate 80 CV90 Mjölner in its fleet. The vehicles, known as the Armoured Mortar Vehicle 90, provide essential indirect fire capability in mechanised brigades.

There are approximately 1,300 CV90s, in several variants, operating in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. The vehicle has a proven combat history and is designed to accommodate future growth to meet changing tasks. More recently, both Slovakia and the Czech Republic have chosen the CV90 to replace their older infantry vehicles.
