The historically significant training ground Ladugårdsgärdet in Stockholm hosted two ceremonial gatherings over the weekend; the army's 500th anniversary celebration and Veterans Day. On Saturday, over 100,000 visitors came to celebrate the Army. And today, Swedish veterans were honoured, among other places, at the Maritime Museum, opposite Gärdet.

On Saturday, 27 May, a celebration lasting over nine hours took place to commemorate the army's 500-year history. The day began with a cannon salute and a display by Caroleans and hussars. At lunchtime, the 31st Ranger Battalion demonstrated an air assault with helicopters, breaching, and extraction with their new Polaris Dagor, referred to in the defence as the Long-Range Reconnaissance Vehicle. In the afternoon, helicopters and aircraft from the former army aviation performed flyovers, and then five parachutists jumped out of a helicopter at an altitude of 1,500 metres. The evening continued with a flag parade featuring current flags and standards as well as old field signs. Finally, a concert was held with the army's band and guest performances by artists Titti Sjöblom and Stefan Andersson, concluding with a speech from AC Engelbrektson and a tattoo.

Around Gärdet, many vehicles and materiel systems were present with personnel answering questions from curious visitors. Some of these included the Archer artillery system, Combat Vehicle 90, and various radar systems, including Saab's new Giraffe 1X mounted on a pickup. Many defence companies were also present in a tent village where enthusiastic personnel showcased various materiel and products they produce. One of the highlights was the medical technology distributor OneMed, which had a large tent where visitors could try out some of their products. Additionally, the Defence Materiel Administration's tent had long queues for people eager to handle the new firearms that will eventually be deployed to units.

Two days later, a stone's throw away, Veterans Day began with a flag-raising ceremony at the Maritime Museum. During the day, the Armed Forces and other authorities and organisations showcased their activities to visitors and participants. BAE Hägglunds' Per Samuelsson handed over cheques to the Veterans Support Association Rapid Reaction (VRR) and also the Swedish Veterans Federation (SVF) Peacekeepers. This year's Veterans Day included a special commemoration of the veterans who served in Lebanon with the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL).

During the ceremony, speeches were given by, among others, Speaker Andreas Norlén, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and Supreme Commander Micael Bydén. The speakers, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Prince Carl Philip, participated in the wreath-laying at the Veteran Memorial. During the awarding of the Armed Forces' Medal of Merit, Commander Mats Fogelmark read the citation. One of the recipients was Private Carl Ekbring, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Merit in gold for his death in service on Kebnekaise on 21 February 2023. The King presented medals to the attending recipients who had, among other things, participated in the evacuation in Kabul and served at the embassy in Kyiv. Towards the end of the evening, Kim Svensson, co-founder of Combat Camera, was named Veteran of the Year.

The Armed Forces have also organised several local ceremonies in various locations, from Kiruna in the north to Revingehed in the south.
