The government has tasked Allan Widman, Governor of Kalmar County, with analyzing the need for a physical center for recreation and recovery for Swedish veterans. The assignment is to be reported to the Ministry of Defense no later than March 31, 2025.

The veteran center is part of the new strategy An Active and Inclusive Veteran Policy – Sweden's Veteran Strategy 2024–2030, which aims to strengthen support for individuals who have served in international missions and their families. The goal is to ensure that the support is proportional to the stresses and sacrifices that the service has entailed.

Widman is to first identify the problems veterans face and assess whether a veteran center is a solution. If so, he is to propose the design, operational forms, and financing. He will consult with veteran organizations, families, and relevant authorities.
