Swedish company Aimpoint's red dot sight, the Acro P-2, is included in a new duty pistol system for Canada's federal police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The contract has been awarded to Canadian distributor Rampart Corp. and has a total value of approximately 39 million Canadian dollars.
In addition to Aimpoint's red dot sight, the system includes the Glock 45 MOS 7 pistol, a weapon light from Streamlight, sights from Ameriglo, a holster from Safariland, and a carrying case from Nanuk. The contract also includes dedicated training pistols from Glock, according to Canadian distributor Rampart Corp.
"We see a clear trend towards optics on duty pistols, driven by real operational needs. Being selected as part of this system is a strong confirmation of that development," says Per Lovatt, CEO of Aimpoint AB, in a press release from Aimpoint.
The sight is designed and manufactured in Sweden. Aimpoint states that once introduced, the system is expected to be used by a large proportion of Canadian police officers.
"Canada's largest law enforcement agency is adopting a red dot sight on a modern pistol across the board. Entirely the right direction, both to reduce risks for officers and third parties and to simplify training," writes Fredrik Jacobsson, Aimpoint's Training Director, in a post on LinkedIn.
Aimpoint's Acro P-2 was previously also selected for Britain's new automatic carbine, the L403A1, as part of the British AIW (Advanced Individual Weapon) programme, which NDS reported on in 2023.
