50,000 New Rifles for the Danish Defence

The Danish Defence and Home Guard are now beginning the introduction of 50,000 new automatic rifles, M/25, which will gradually replace the older M/10 system by 2027, featuring improvements such as reduced weight and a new rail system. The rifle is manufactured by Colt Canada, and the retraining for soldiers is described as straightforward due to its similarities with the predecessor.

50,000 New Rifles for the Danish Defence

Approximately 50,000 new automatic rifles, M/25, are now being introduced into the Danish Defence and Home Guard. The first soldiers have already tested the weapon, and during 2026–2027 it will gradually replace the previous standard rifle M/10, as announced by the Danish Defence Command in a press release.

After 16 years, it is time for a generational shift in armament within the Defence. The new rifle, GV M/25 C8 MRR, has now begun to be distributed to soldiers across the country. The new rifle is manufactured by the Canadian company Colt Canada, the same supplier that was behind the previous M/10 system.

– The two weapons are very similar to each other, but there have been some clear improvements from M/10 to M/25. Among other things, the rifle has a slightly lower weight and improved comfort. Additionally, what is special about the M/25 is its new rail system, writes the Danish Defence Command.

The new rail system means that soldiers can more easily adapt the weapon to different types of missions and environments.

In August, NDS reported that the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) had signed an agreement with Colt Canada for the purchase of 26,000 rifles, with an option for more. The order has since been expanded to nearly 50,000 M/25s.

The retraining for instructors and soldiers is described as relatively simple, as the weapon's basic functions are the same as before. After the initial tests, the units are now deemed ready to pass on the knowledge to new soldiers.

The distribution of the M/25 is expected to continue during 2026 and 2027, before the weapon has fully replaced the M/10 within the entire Defence and Home Guard.
