Finnish defence company Patria has signed a contract to supply its MUSCL passive radar system to an undisclosed European NATO member country. The contract covers several sensor stations to cover the customer's area of interest, along with spare parts, support and training services meant to enable rapid deployment.

"Patria MUSCL delivers a unique combination of covert surveillance, operational flexibility and cost-effective performance," said Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria's Defence and Weapon Systems business area.

Patria said demand for passive radar technology is growing across Europe as armed forces expand their air defence and counter-UAS capabilities. Such systems provide early warning without revealing the user's own position.

MUSCL is a transportable passive radar system that detects, tracks and reports aerial targets in real time by picking up existing transmissions in the surrounding electromagnetic environment. It supports air surveillance, early warning and counter-unmanned aircraft system missions.
