Ukraine has sent a specialist team to Denmark to contribute with experiences in drone defence. The initiative comes in the wake of recurring observations of drones in Danish airspace and is deemed capable of laying the foundation for a new European system to counter the threat from unmanned vehicles.

– Our group of specialists has commenced a mission in Denmark to share Ukraine's experiences in combating drones, writes Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on X on 30 September.

He describes Ukraine's experiences as the most relevant in Europe and points out that the knowledge can contribute to a broader European solution, called “Drone Wall,” aimed at securing the airspace against threats from both Russia and other actors.

On the same day, Denmark's armed forces confirmed that the Ukrainian specialists had arrived and are participating in joint exercises.

– The Ukrainians are leading the development in the drone area. It is a great advantage for Denmark that we can benefit from their experiences and that they share their expertise with us, says Army Chief Major General Peter Boysen in a post on X.

Four days earlier, Zelenskyy also commented on the situation with drones in Danish airspace in connection with a conversation with Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

– We must coordinate even more closely and increase defence production. All challenges can be managed through cooperation, he wrote on 26 September.

The background is several major meetings in Copenhagen on 1–2 October, including an informal EU summit on European defence and support for Ukraine, as well as a meeting in the European Political Community with participants from a total of 47 countries. On the agenda are, among other things, drone threats, hybrid influence, and the security situation in Europe. In the days leading up to the meetings, the Danish Defence has confirmed several observations of drones at military installations, including Flyvestation Skrydstrup and the Jydske Dragon Regiment's barracks in Holstebro.
