FMV states that the Swedish Armed Forces' light supply boats are being upgraded to extend the boat's lifespan and enhance mobility and logistical capabilities at sea for the amphibious units. FMV will deliver sixteen modified light supply boats to the Swedish Armed Forces over the next three years.

The light supply boat is versatile and highly flexible. Since its introduction in the late 1990s, it has been used within the amphibious units for the supply of fuel, ammunition, water, and food. Its waterjet propulsion allows it to operate in very shallow waters close to shore.

– The lifespan-extended supply boat increases the units' mobility, among other things, through increased maximum and cruising speed and gains longer range due to more efficient fuel consumption, says Camilla Wallentinsson, project manager at FMV.

For improved close protection, the light supply boat has been adapted with an elevated ring mount and a pedestal mount at the stern to further enhance the boat's firepower. All weapon positions have been adapted and future-proofed for the installation of both existing and potential future machine guns and grenade launchers. In addition to close protection, the light supply boat has the capability to carry and deploy naval mines and depth charges.

In addition to delivering supplies, the boat can be adapted for other logistical tasks by loading vehicles or functional containers onboard. For example, there are containers that enable large-scale cooking and equipment repair, but also tracked vehicles or quad bikes with trailers can be deployed from the boat's bow. Besides this, the boat can serve as a medical facility with paramedics, nurses, and doctors onboard.

– I believe we have found a good process for our collaboration with the amphibious units, where we can jointly translate their needs and requirements into cost-effective solutions, says Camilla Wallentinsson.

Upgrade of the light supply boat includes:

– Replacement of main engines, power units, and jet propulsion units
– Installation of a new navigation system
– Development and expansion of weapon installations
– Renovation of the wheelhouse for improved combat management, navigation, and ergonomics
– Extension by 1 metre for better water characteristics and sea safety.
