After two years of planning, the infantry now has its own beret color. The dark brown berets will be worn by the Dalregiment in Falun and the Västernorrland Regiment in Sollefteå with the infantry's beret insignia, and the Life Guards' infantry will have its own insignia in the form of HMK Carl XVI Gustaf's seal.

The decision means that the oldest branch in the army receives the same distinctiveness as the armored troops and cavalry. Previously, the infantry shared the army's common beret with the functional units.

The idea was initiated by the Dalregiment shortly after it was reestablished in 2022. Textile samples were sent out, and the color choice fell on dark brown, a shade within the uniform system deemed sufficiently distinct from existing beret colors.

– Our strength is our professionalism, teamwork, and spirit within the infantry. This is what the dark brown beret is meant to symbolize, says Peter Torgén, regimental administrator at I 13.

The beret becomes part of this year's tradition-building for the Dalregiment, which celebrates 400 years.

– It is important to create new symbols that strengthen unit spirit and the pride of being an infantryman, says battalion commander Mattias Otterström.

The Life Guards' infantry, which currently wears a black beret, will also transition. The black color is a remnant from the unit's previous mechanized orientation but is no longer considered relevant.

The Army Staff has established implementation directives, and at the beginning of October, ceremonies are planned in Falun, Sollefteå, Östersund, and Kungsängen where the infantrymen will don their new berets.
