The six aircraft have arrived at Keflavík Air Base (Iceland) to participate in NATO's incident readiness. The operation is taking place during February and March and marks the first rotation in Iceland for Skaraborg Air Force Wing, F 7.
– We have been planning for this operation for a long time, and it feels both interesting and important given the current global situation. The mission is aimed at the collective defence of Icelandic airspace, and it feels good to be able to contribute, says Lieutenant Colonel Johan Legardt, contingent commander, in a press release.
The group landed on Monday, February 2. The strength consists of over 110 personnel from Skaraborg Air Force Wing F 7 as well as from the rest of the Air Force.
This constitutes the 55th rotation for Iceland within NATO Air Policing, but it is the first time the Swedish Air Force is responsible for the task. Work on site has commenced to ensure operational effectiveness.
– Sweden is stepping up as a new member in NATO on the northern flank and is focusing, among other things, on the Arctic. The aircraft and our personnel are ready for the mission, says Johan Legardt.
