Finland's President Alexander Stubb and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasised during a meeting in Brussels that Finland's NATO integration is progressing. The focus is on strengthening the north, with a new command structure and continued support for Ukraine.

During a visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels on 17 November, Finland's President Alexander Stubb and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine and increased military presence in Northern Europe.

– Russia believes it can stop us by continuing the bombings. This is wrong. We continue to support Ukraine both militarily and economically, said President Stubb according to a press release from the presidential office.

The President also stated that Finland's integration into NATO is proceeding as planned, with two central components: the new land command in Mikkeli (S:t Michel), Multi-Corps Land Component Command, which has now commenced its operations, and NATO's Forward Land Forces (FLF) in Finland, which continue their exercise activities.

According to NATO, this highlights Finland's "practical security thinking" and strong contribution to the defence alliance, including in the protection of underwater infrastructure, airspace surveillance, and space capability.

– Finland can count on its NATO allies, said Mark Rutte during the joint press conference.

Rutte also highlighted Finland's recent contribution to Ukraine through a new package of 100 million euros via the PURL initiative, in cooperation with Nordic and Baltic allies.
