Swedish company Snigel has signed a contract with Thales in Germany for the delivery of a carrying system for the Thales GO12 radar. The contract is worth 8.3 million Swedish kronor, with an option for additional orders valued at 7.2 million kronor.
Snigel states in a press release that the system has been developed over approximately 12 months in close collaboration with Thales, with the first delivery planned for January 2027. Deliveries under the agreement will take place in several batches, starting in January 2027, with the final delivery expected at the end of 2029.
"We are proud of our collaboration with Thales in Germany to deliver this carrying system, which has been specifically developed for their GO12 radar. It is a perfect example of how we can quickly adapt our products to meet a customer's specific operational needs, and how we can work together to develop solutions as integrated systems," says Malin Hlawatsch, Chief Executive Officer of Snigel, in the press release.
Snigel states that the company and Thales have jointly developed a backpack-mounted carrying system for the complete radar set, optimised for ease of use in the field and maximum comfort for the system's two operators. The German company Lindnerhof has supplied the carrying plates, known as packboards, onto which the radar is mounted. Snigel has developed an external carrying solution that attaches to both the packboard and the radar. The backpack is said to enable soldiers to carry an additional 20 kilograms of equipment in combat.
The GO12 is a tactical ground surveillance radar produced by Thales Germany in Ditzingen (southwestern Germany) and developed for light artillery and reconnaissance units. The system is designed to detect and classify ground targets as well as low-flying drones and aerial targets at ranges of up to 27 kilometres. Since the GO12 entered service in 2019, Thales states that the system has been used operationally by the French Army (Armée de Terre) in Mali and Iraq, as well as in front-line operations in Ukraine since the first deliveries there in August 2022.
