– We are proud to contribute to the British Army's artillery locating capability with the new version of our Arthur radar. We have a long-standing relationship with the customer, who has used the previously delivered systems in a variety of missions in countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The British Army is the first user of the new generation of Arthur, and we look forward to continuing to contribute with our capability, says Andy Fraser, head of Saab in the United Kingdom.
The upgraded version of Arthur uses digital radar technology, enabling faster redeployment and the ability to detect more threats at longer distances. Additionally, it is more difficult for adversaries to detect the system. The five systems were handed over to the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery in July 2024. Maintenance and technical support will be managed at Saab's radar operations in Fareham, United Kingdom.
– Saab is an important partner as a supplier of Arthur, and we are impressed by the capabilities Saab contributes to the British Armed Forces. The previous generation of Arthur is well-proven, and the new one represents a significant capability leap, says Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory KBE CB, Master Gunner at St James’s Park.
