Saab has officially opened its new production facility in Fareham, United Kingdom. The factory manufactures and maintains radar and underwater systems, including Giraffe 1X and Seaeye SR20. The inauguration was attended by the UK's Minister for Business, Jonathan Reynolds.

– This new campus is a testament to Saab's growth in the UK and our long-term commitment to the British defense industry. Through our investment here, we will deliver innovative technology and products to our customers, says Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, in the company's press release.

The factory employs up to 400 people and plans to expand production for both the British Armed Forces and international customers. It will, among other things, support the UK's existing radar systems, including Giraffe and TAIPAN (Arthur). Saab has previously delivered five units of the artillery locating radar TAIPAN to the British Army, an upgraded version of the Arthur radar aimed at improving the ability to locate hostile artillery.

– Saab's investment in Hampshire provides a significant boost to the local community through hundreds of new high-skilled jobs. It is precisely the type of investment our industrial strategy is designed to support, says Jonathan Reynolds in the press release.

The new factory is part of Saab's long-term expansion in the UK. The company has been operating in Fareham since 2007, when Saab acquired Seaeye Holdings Ltd to strengthen its position in underwater robotics. In 2023, Saab started radar production in the UK, focusing on Giraffe 1X.
