The Norwegian frigate KNM Fridtjof Nansen is participating alongside NATO's Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) in the US-led naval exercise FLEETEX 250 off the east coast of the United States. The exercise runs from 22 to 29 June and brings together approximately 20 allied and partner nations.

According to a press release from NATO, SNMG1 is participating with vessels from Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Turkey. The exercise encompasses coordinated manoeuvres at sea, communications exercises, and training in information sharing to strengthen interoperability and the ability to conduct joint maritime operations across the Atlantic and in the Arctic.

"I am pleased to lead SNMG1 as we participate in FLEETEX 250 here in the United States. The force has over the past two months operated in the Baltic Sea, the High North, and off the US east coast, demonstrating both the endurance and flexibility of NATO's maritime forces. Through exercises such as FLEETEX 250, we continue to strengthen interoperability, develop mutual trust, and maintain a credible and sustained maritime presence in support of our collective security," said Commodore Maryla Ingham, Commander of SNMG1, in NATO's press release.

In a press release from the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvaret), it is stated that KNM Fridtjof Nansen has been part of SNMG1 since the beginning of May. During FLEETEX 250, the Norwegian frigate leads the force's surface warfare assets.

"Credible deterrence is not only about individual capability, but about the ability to operate cohesively, in a coordinated manner, and as a unified force. That is where NATO's true strength lies, and that is precisely what we are training for during FLEETEX 250," said Commander Stian Buunk, Commanding Officer of KNM Fridtjof Nansen, in the Norwegian Armed Forces press release.
