The first cohort of the Norwegian Home Guard's (Heimevernet) section commander training has graduated at Porsangmoen (northern Norway). According to the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvaret), the training marks an important step in efforts to strengthen the section commander role within the Home Guard.
In a press release from Heimevernet, the training was conducted in Finnmark (northernmost county of Norway) and aims to provide more structured training for personnel who will lead sections within the Norwegian Home Guard.
– The Home Guard's section commander training in Finnmark has been an important step in strengthening the defence, but particularly readiness in the north, says Tomas Bakke, commander of the Finnmark Home Guard District, in the press release.
The training concluded with a ceremony at Porsangmoen, attended by, among others, the Home Guard Commander, Major General Frode Ommundsen. During the ceremony, the best student and the student who had distinguished themselves most in soldier skills were also named.
– We are training leaders who can take responsibility, make decisions, and lead soldiers under demanding Arctic conditions. The goal is not to create theorists, but confident and competent section commanders who master the fundamentals when it truly matters, says Kjartan Malnes, commander of the training company.
