The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) is sending 250 mine detectors that can be used in the work to clear mines that have been washed away or mixed with debris in the affected areas after the dam explosion, according to a press release from MSB.

On 6 June, the Nova Kakhovka power plant dam in Kherson, Ukraine, was blown up. One of the consequences of the collapsed dam is that landmines and other unexploded ordnance have been spread over large areas, far beyond the shores and flood zones. The mines now pose a significant explosion risk.

- MSB sent mine clearance equipment to Ukraine as early as 2022. We have now decided to further strengthen this part of our operational efforts by donating 250 mine detectors worth 15 million kronor, says Magdalena Tham Lindell, who is the head of the humanitarian operations unit, in the press release.
