Lithuania has ordered a mobile air defence system from Saab based on the ground-based system RBS 70 NG. The deal includes vehicles, missiles, training, and logistics, with deliveries planned between 2025 and 2027.

According to Saab's press release, the system will be used by Lithuania's national defence forces and will help strengthen the country's short-range air defence capability. The RBS 70 NG is a laser-guided missile air defence system with a seeker that cannot be jammed, which according to Saab makes it suitable for modern threat environments where adversaries use advanced electronic warfare.

The order means that Lithuania becomes the eighth country to acquire the RBS 70 NG, and the delivery is part of an agreement between Saab and the Lithuanian Defence Materiel Agency. Previous users of the system include Sweden, the Czech Republic, Brazil, and Estonia.

“We are proud to deliver our advanced mobile air defence solution to Lithuania. This order strengthens the long-term cooperation with Lithuania, and we look forward to contributing to their air defence capability,” says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab's business area Dynamics, in the press release.

The system is delivered as a mobile solution, where the RBS 70 NG is integrated onto vehicles to provide users with greater mobility and faster redeployment. The delivery also includes Saab's planning and analysis tools, which are used to maximise operational effect and support decision-making during operations.
