The Air Force's quick reaction alert took off earlier today to conduct a visual identification of a Russian reconnaissance aircraft southeast of Blekinge, together with German Eurofighters.

The Russian aircraft did not violate Swedish airspace but crossed the boundary of the Swedish flight information region, writes the Air Force in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Flight information regions are defined areas that extend over the entire earth's airspace.

The Armed Forces write on their website that the quick reaction alert is an important part of the Air Force's mission to assert Sweden's territorial integrity, ensure air operational control, and conduct intelligence gathering.
