Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) invited to a press conference this afternoon together with Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) and Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) at Berga Naval Base. During the press conference, the ministers announced that Sweden is increasing efforts to train Ukrainian units.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson informed that Sweden will allocate approximately 400 million SEK to train over 18,000 Ukrainians, both within and outside Sweden.

Defense Minister Pål Jonson mentioned that this involves approximately 500 additional personnel for the Combat Vehicle 90, medical training in Germany, leadership training for senior officers, continued support for Operation Interflex in the United Kingdom, and now also support for Interforge for about 5,000 Ukrainians.

The Defense Minister continued by expressing deep respect for the Ukrainians in training who wish to return to the front as quickly as possible to apply their knowledge. However, he emphasized the importance of considering the balance between a quick return and conducting longer training to improve the units' capabilities.

One of the news items is that Sweden will now participate in the Maritime Capability Coalition, led by the United Kingdom and Norway, which began in December 2023.

According to a press release from the Norwegian government, the coalition has been formed to strengthen Ukraine's maritime defense in the long term.

– Our goal is to strengthen Ukraine's maritime defense and improve its ability to operate along its own coast. Norway has conducted training for Ukrainian soldiers in small boat operations and will be able to build on this support when concrete plans for further development are established, says Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram in the press release.

The United Kingdom announced in connection with the launch that they will, among other things, donate two Sandown-class minehunters from the Royal Navy.
