Defence and security policy in the Nordics — covered as one region.

Nordic Defence Sector is the independent news platform for defence and security policy in the Nordics — written for those who shape the decisions, not for those who comment on them.

Our mission

What we do — and why it must be done independently.

Nordic Defence Sector was founded in 2023 as the first platform dedicated to covering defence and security policy in the Nordics as a coherent region — not as four separate national stories.

We cover the defence industry, military capabilities, NATO cooperation and security policy developments in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Our readership is those who work in the sector: decision-makers in ministries and agencies, defence industry leadership, parliamentarians, officers and analysts.

The editorial team works independently of political parties, government agencies and commercial interests. The journalism is financed through clearly declared partnerships — never through editorial influence from any of those parties.

Geographic coverage

Four countries. One security order.

When Sweden orders ammunition from a Finnish supplier, when Norway integrates a sensor on a Danish frigate, when NATO establishes a planning element in Finland — these are not four stories. They are one. We cover it that way.

Defence Wiki

The sector's dictionary — curated by the editorial team, linked in every article.

The defence sector speaks in acronyms. A single article can contain FMV, NSM, JSF, CV90, NATO ACO and EDF — and assume the reader knows what each term means.

Defence Wiki is our solution. An editorially curated reference work of the terms, agencies, systems and programmes that recur in Nordic defence coverage. Hover over a term — the definition appears. Click — you land in the in-depth entry.
