- We have evaluated this in a project together with the Soldiers' Home at the Southern Scanian Regiment (P 7), based in southern Sweden. The Soldiers' Home dog Buddha has participated in several field exercises, and the successful project now serves as the model for the scaling-up that is to take place, says Colonel Bark.
According to the Colonel, many dog owners are very positive about the new conscription requirement. Dogs that have previously shown discomfort around fireworks and firecrackers will be assigned to staff service.
- The information reaching me suggests that many in civil society find it positive that their dog gets an opportunity to grow and take on responsibility. We are keen to ensure that all individuals receive a posting suited to their capability, concludes Colonel Bark.
The dogs selected will complete their military service (värnplikt) at the newly established regiment K 9 in Byracka, commencing 1 April 2025.
