The Dutch armed forces have signed a ten-year contract with Swedish company Saab Barracuda for the delivery of hundreds of mobile camouflage systems intended for vehicle types including the Fennek, Pantserhouwitser 2000NL, and CV90.

The contract was signed at Bernhardkazerne in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Saab Barracuda is expected to deliver the first systems over the coming years.

According to the Dutch Ministry of Defence, the new systems are purpose-built camouflage coverings for vehicles and ground-based systems. The systems feature multispectral properties and provide protection against hostile detection across multiple wavelength bands, including visible light, infrared, night vision, and thermal detection.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence states that its current camouflage materiel is primarily designed for static operations and does not provide sufficient protection against modern sensors operating across the electromagnetic spectrum. The new systems are intended to protect soldiers in the field against hostile sensors, including drones, which is said to increase their safety and chances of survival.

Additional vehicle types are to be equipped with the camouflage system in the future, according to the Dutch Ministry of Defence.
