The government has appointed John Billow as the head of the National Cybersecurity Center, effective September 1, 2025. Since November 1, 2024, NCSC has been part of FRA and is to be developed into a hub for Swedish cybersecurity.

– I am grateful for the trust to continue building NCSC and contribute to the work of strengthening Sweden's cybersecurity and resilience. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and working together with cybersecurity colleagues across Sweden, says John Billow.

Billow comes most recently from FMV as the head of the department for cybersecurity and certification and has previously worked with cybercrime and cybersecurity at Interpol, as well as served as an expert at the Ministry of Justice and as a legal advisor and police advisor at Sweden's permanent representation to the UN.

Billow was introduced at a press conference by the Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M) together with FRA's Director General Björn Lyrvall.

– John Billow has the right expertise and background to lead the transformation that Swedish cybersecurity is currently undergoing, in close collaboration with both the public and private sectors, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister for Civil Defense.

NCSC is to strengthen Sweden's ability to prevent, detect, and manage antagonistic cyber threats and IT incidents, serving as a national platform for cooperation between public and private actors.

– I am very pleased that FRA can now take the work of developing NCSC to the next level, with the government's appointment of John Billow as center head. I warmly welcome him to FRA, says Björn Lyrvall.
