FMV has submitted a report to the Ministry of Defence presenting proposals on how national needs in cybersecurity can be identified and translated into security requirements within the EU's cybersecurity certification. The assignment was given by the government in May 2023, FMV states in a press release.

– We propose that a consolidated national competence and support function should be established within the state. This is to achieve a strong national capability for analysis and coordination, as well as proactive and early influence on the development of standards and certification schemes. But also to be able to support responsible authorities and operators within the cyber domain, says Dag Ströman, cybersecurity advisor at FMV in the press release.

The function is to support responsible authorities and operators to ensure that Swedish security needs are considered in the EU framework for cybersecurity certification. This is deemed necessary to take advantage of the opportunities offered by European cooperation, influence the development in standardisation organisations, and to manage the complexity within the cybersecurity field and the technical requirements imposed on security-critical systems.

– To meet Swedish needs, we need to be involved in these bodies, otherwise someone else decides for us. It is also important that Sweden pushes for common international standards, as this leads to lower costs for both suppliers and operators, which in itself creates better room in each operator's security budget, says Dag Ströman.
