**The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has begun handing over new fire control instruments from French company Safran Electronics & Defense to the Swedish Armed Forces. A total of 260 instruments are to be delivered to fire control teams within the Army, Navy and Home Guard. Deliveries will continue until 2028.**

[According to](https://www.fmv.se/aktuellt–press/aktuella-handelser/fmv-lamnar-over-nytt-eldledningsinstrument/) FMV, the first handover comprises 205 bags containing instruments and associated spare parts. The system is designed to observe, classify and locate targets, as well as direct indirect fire.

The instrument's main component is an electro-optical sight with a thermal camera, laser rangefinder, compass and satellite navigation. The system also features digital map support and can transmit target data to firing units. For fire control teams with particularly high precision requirements, a north-seeking gyro is also included.

"This is a significant improvement compared with the previous system. It is also a long-awaited capability that the Armed Forces can start using immediately," says Claes Tamm, project manager for fire control systems at FMV, in the agency's news release.

According to FMV, the new instrument weighs around ten kilograms less than its predecessor. The delivery also includes test and repair equipment to enable the Armed Forces to carry out maintenance independently.

[NDS reported in September 2025](https://nordicdefencesector.com/sv/article/fmv-orders-new-fire-control-system-from-safran) that FMV had signed a contract with Safran Electronics & Defense worth approximately SEK 488 million. The first deliveries were, at the time, planned for spring 2026.
