> Denmark has ordered over 40,000 M/20 High Cut combat helmets from Canadian manufacturer Galvion, with about half already delivered to the Danish Defence. The high-cut design is replacing the mid-cut model as standard issue, offering the same ballistic protection while fitting better with hearing protection, headsets, and night-vision equipment.

**Denmark’s Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI) [has ordered](https://www.fmi.dk/da/nyheder/2026/over-40.000-high-cut-hjelme-indkobt-til-forsvaret) more than 40,000 M/20 High Cut combat helmets from Canadian manufacturer Galvion. About half have already arrived in Denmark, the agency said on 28 October.**

— There are modern quality helmets in stock for everyone, in either mid-cut or high-cut design, said Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, head of FMI’s Land Division.

The first helmets were delivered in 2025. The high-cut model is gradually replacing the mid-cut as the standard helmet in the Danish Armed Forces and the Home Guard.

According to FMI, the main reason for the switch is better fit with hearing protection and headsets. The mid-cut version sits lower around the ears, which can make that equipment fit poorly.

The high-cut shell gives the same ballistic protection but covers less around the ears. It is also lighter, but FMI says weight was not the main reason for the change. Rails and brackets take night-vision goggles, helmet lights and battery packs.

Units receive the helmets in turn under the armed forces’ rollout plan. Because demand is high, some soldiers have not yet been able to get a high-cut helmet from their depot.

## FAQ

**How many M/20 High Cut helmets has Denmark ordered from Galvion?**

Denmark's Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency has ordered more than 40,000 M/20 High Cut helmets from Canadian manufacturer Galvion. About half have already arrived, with first deliveries made in 2025. The helmet is gradually replacing the mid-cut version as standard across the Danish Armed Forces and Home Guard. Last fact-checked: 2026-10-30.

**Why is Denmark switching from mid-cut to high-cut combat helmets?**

FMI says the main reason is better compatibility with hearing protection and headsets, since the mid-cut version sits lower around the ears and fits such equipment poorly. The high-cut shell offers the same ballistic protection while covering less around the ears. It is also lighter, though FMI states weight was not the primary motivation. Last fact-checked: 2026-10-30.

**What accessories can be mounted on Denmark's new high-cut helmets?**

The high-cut helmets feature rails and brackets that accommodate night-vision goggles, helmet lights and battery packs. This design supports modern soldier equipment integration alongside hearing protection and headsets. Units are receiving the helmets under the armed forces' rollout plan, though high demand means some soldiers await delivery from their depots. Last fact-checked: 2026-10-30.
